Why Therapeutic Riding?

Individuals with almost any cognitive, physical and/or emotional disability can benefit from safe, supervised interaction with equines.  Because horseback riding gently and rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, riders with physical disabilities often show improvement in flexibility, balance and muscle strength.

For individuals with mental or emotional challenges, the unique relationship formed with the horse can lead to increased confidence, patience and self-esteem.  Therapeutic riding gives many of our students the opportunity to set aside crutches, wheelchairs and impairments while in the saddle.

Therapy experts have found that individuals with challenges respond to horses in ways that can’t be duplicated in traditional clinical environments.  Our horses accept unconditionally and the bonds that develop become a vital part of the therapy.

*NOTE:  New clients must fill out a New Client Form.  All riders MUST sign a Liability Waiver and Rider Agreement.

PEER SUPPORT GROUPS:

Gina McCutchen is a Certified Peer Specialist recognized by the State of Georgia and DBHDD and works with mental health agencies and practitioners to provide unique and phenomenally healing Peer led group equine assisted therapeutic riding sessions that help with issues such as trauma, substance abuse, grief, anxiety, depression and debilitating low self esteem. DBT skills are incorporated into every group so clients experience the skill while more of their brain is active because of their involvement with the horses. These experiences have been shown to replace the trauma event and foster accelerated recovery!

TRAIL RIDES $75 per person
90 MINUTE wonderful experience which includes instruction on how to groom your horse, tack up and basic riding instruction in the arena to insure each person’s ability to independently control their horse. Then approximately an hour trail ride through the beautiful woods and over hills, through the stream around our gorgeous 58 acres.

When our staff determines that repeat clients can successfully groom, tack up and ride the trails without assistance, then the rental fee for one of our horses is $55 per 90 minute session.

Equine-Assisted Peer Support Groups

Dream Power Therapy offers specialized equine-assisted peer support groups that harness the unique healing power of horses combined with certified peer support services. Led by Gina Lee, who holds the rare combination of Certified Peer Specialist (CPS), Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist (CARES), and PATH International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) credentials alongside 38 years of personal recovery, these groups provide a safe, non-judgmental space where individuals can connect with others who truly understand the journey. Unlike traditional talk therapy or clinical settings, our peer support groups take place in the calming presence of horses, whose intuitive nature and immediate feedback create powerful opportunities for authentic connection, emotional regulation, and personal insight. As a “dopeless hope dealer” who has walked this path, Gina facilitates groups where lived experience meets professional expertise, creating an environment where hope is contagious and recovery feels possible.

These Medicaid-funded peer support groups are available to meet regularly through your community provider and welcome individuals at any stage of their recovery journey, whether newly sober, working on relapse prevention, or strengthening long-term recovery. Participants engage in ground-based activities with our therapy horses while processing their experiences, sharing struggles and victories, learning recovery skills, and building the supportive community that is essential for lasting sobriety. The horses serve as honest mirrors, responding to our emotional states and helping us recognize patterns, practice healthy boundaries, and develop authentic relationships—skills that translate directly into our human connections. No horse experience is necessary; all that’s required is a willingness to show up, be honest, and allow both the horses and your peers to support your healing journey. These groups recognize that recovery is not a solitary path but a communal experience where we heal together, one day at a time.

Equine-Assisted Trauma Recovery

Trauma lives in the body, not just the mind—and traditional talk therapy alone often cannot reach the deep wounds that drive addiction and self-destructive patterns. Dream Power Therapy’s equine-assisted trauma recovery program offers a somatic, body-centered approach to healing that recognizes the profound connection between unresolved trauma and substance use disorders. Led by Gina Lee, a PATH International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor with specialized training in trauma-informed care and 38 years in recovery from her own trauma and addiction, this program creates a safe container where women can begin to process their pain without being retraumatized. Horses, as prey animals with finely-tuned nervous systems, naturally attune to human emotions and provide immediate, non-judgmental feedback that helps participants recognize their trauma responses, regulate their nervous systems, and reclaim their sense of safety and power.

Our trauma recovery program integrates evidence-based practices including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, mindfulness, somatic experiencing, and trauma-focused peer support within the natural therapeutic environment of our farm. Each session is carefully designed to help participants move through the stages of trauma healing: establishing safety, processing traumatic memories through gentle body-centered work with the horses, and ultimately reconnecting with themselves and others in healthy ways. We incorporate resources from Traumanon—a 12-step program specifically addressing trauma—alongside traditional recovery support, recognizing that true sobriety requires healing the wounds that addiction was masking. Whether you’re dealing with childhood trauma, domestic violence, sexual assault, or complex PTSD, our horses offer a pathway to healing that honors your pace, respects your boundaries, and reminds you of your inherent strength and resilience. This is trauma recovery that doesn’t require you to relive your story repeatedly, but instead invites you to rewrite your future through connection, compassion, and the gentle wisdom of horses.

Abuse and Trauma Program

9 times out of 10, an unhealed trauma is the cause of a substance use disorder. Equine assisted therapy is one of the most effective ways to heal from the devastating effects of all trauma – anxiety, depression, flashbacks, night terrors, panic attacks, substance abuse, etc.

We have Peer Specialist led sessions that incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills for individuals and groups that have suffered severely life altering traumatic events such as childhood or adult sexual/physical abuse, service combat or severe neglect.

Individual or groups available based on assessed need.

The groups consist of 3 to 5 clients meeting 2 to 3 times per week for two hour sessions.  Replacing the painful memory with  healing ones, filled with peace and joy, experiencing how to use the life skills that effectively transform the debilitating effects of trauma into the foundation stones to build a stronger heart, mind and spirit.

We are happy to coordinate and work with your mental health provider!

VETERANS SERVICES

Dream Power Therapy serves many individuals and groups with many needs and challenges.  And while our mission remains to partner to provide these services at as little cost to our clients as possible, Dream Power is committed to offering a 100% exemption when it comes to services for our veteran clients.  We do sometimes work with individual veterans that insist on paying their way, and will respect their wishes and offer them the opportunity to do what they have always done, to serve as a method to fulfill any obligation they may feel.  That can come in many forms of volunteering with Dream Power from working with other veterans and clients, to helping with the herd or maintenance of the barn and facilities.  Veterans interested in any of our services are encouraged to contact us directly for more information or simply book an introductory ride and let us know your military status to receive complementary services. Family of military and veterans receive a 25% discount.
